About the Talk
Drawing on nearly 25 years of military and national security experience, Ben “Felix” Ungerman reflected on America’s involvement in Afghanistan through the lens of war, culture, and nation-building.
The lecture explored the strategic challenges of military engagement, the cultural realities that shaped policy outcomes, and the enduring lessons of America’s longest war — inviting the audience to consider what Afghanistan reveals about the limits of power, the complexity of international intervention, and the human dimensions of global conflict.
“Understanding Afghanistan isn’t just about strategy — it’s about people, history, and what we choose to learn from it.”
