Sue Crawford, Ph.D.

Dr. Sue Crawford serves as the City Administrator for the City of York, Nebraska. Dr. Crawford works with city leaders and community partners to strengthen community collaborations in York and beyond. She participated in an international city administrator exchange program between Nebraska and Norway, traveling to Norway in 2023. An article coauthored by Crawford describing the added value of universities in this Norway/Nebraska exchange is forthcoming in the International City/County Manager Association publication PM: Public Management. Her other publications as a city administrator include a PM article about zoning for home-based businesses and a Nebraska League of Municipalities article about the history of the York water tower. In 2022 Dr Crawford helped to secure a $15.6 million federal grant for active transportation infrastructure in York. Since then, she has presented on applying for grants at multiple conferences.
Dr. Crawford became Professor Emeritus at Creighton University in 2021. She served as faculty at Creighton from 1995 to 2021. Her research and teaching included work on religion and politics, civic engagement, public policy, and health policy.
From 2013 to 2020 Dr. Crawford served as a state senator in the Nebraska State Legislature emphasizing health, veteran & military family, and economic issues. Among the bills that she sponsored and passed include bills to remove regulatory burdens for Nurse Practitioners in the state, to honor the unclaimed remains of veterans, and to expand access to Medicaid for individuals with disabilities. In 2017 she partiipated in a cultural exchange trip to China with other Senators and Nebraska leaders.
