Travels of Fran and Rich Juro

We started traveling in 1966 on $5 a Day in Europe. You could do it then! We stopped for days in Madrid, Zurich, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Helsinki. Even Tangiers (technically Morocco, Africa) where a school buddy ran a bar during the summer. Fran made arrangements to tour the USSR (Russia) where $15/day got us hotel, food, guides, and air fare to Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, and Yalta. Then onto Prague and Vienna. Boarded the Orient Express to Belgrade and Istanbul, and finally toured Greece.
In 1972 we had to cancel a visit to London, so we went to Haiti instead, and traveled by VW Beetle to Limbe, Cap Haitian, and Port-Au-Prince. A few years later, we went down the upper Amazon, naturally on the converted WWII minesweeper Amazon Queen (which sank next year). Eventually we traveled to 180 of the 195 countries. Our last nations are Iraq, Afghanistan, and Yemen in Asia, and about 12 of the 54 countries in Africa. Our most interesting trips were to North Korea, Ethiopia, Nauru, and Central African Republic. Rich thought the most beautiful nation was New Zealand, while Fran was partial to SE Asia, but all of them and their people have been fascinating.
In Omaha, we ran No Frills Supermarkets. We had a great team, including Fran’s Dad, Harold Cooperman, so we could travel. Also, our kids went to our cousins’summer camp in New York, where Rich grew up, although we took the children on some of the tours. Summary: a great and very interesting life!
