University of Nebraska at Omaha

  • Lynne Anderson

    Advisory Board Member

Lynne attended Duke University in North Carolina, her home state and received her BSN and MSN from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She was recruited by University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1976 to support the program of Pediatric Cardio-vascular Surgery. Her work included direct patient clinical care, clinical research and teaching and support of nursing and medical staff. She later worked in the UNMC department of Gynecologic Oncology with similar responsibility of direct patient care, research and teaching. During the entire time at Nebraska Medical Center, she was in leadership positions with the Regional and State Nursing Association and boards and commissions focused on modernizing the Health Care System, locally and nationally. That included work with the Nebraska Governors’ Commission on Health Care Reform as well as then Senator Bob Kerry’s study group regarding the proposed Clinton National Health Care System Reform. Following retirement, Lynne, resumed work by joining a company which investigated Medicaid Fraud and Abuse by Providers as a sub-contractor for the Federal Government. She retired after 5 years as a manager who directed and oversaw the investigation of suspicious activity, reported the results and working with the Attorney General’s office of the State involved, worked to prosecute until completed by the State process. Following retirement, she has been an active volunteer, serving as Treasurer for League of Women Voters Greater Omaha, President of NEWAC and currently serves on the Foster Care Review Board and the Juvenile Probation Board.

Lynne has been an active participant with OWAC (now NEWAC) since its early years. During that time, she traveled to multiple countries for personal travel and for global medical meetings. The individuals involved locally with NEWAC as well as the individuals and groups sponsored by NEWAC led to increasing knowledge and curiosity to learn more about the world, its various cultures, its history and geographic beauty. She continues to travel and has currently visited all but the continents of Arctic and Antarctica. China, Egypt, Vietnam, India, African countries, the Upper Amazon, and Turkey, have been exceptionally interesting. OWAC (NEWAC) has provided wonderful, learning experiences during the many years that it has been active here in Omaha. I anticipate growth and even more exciting adventures which NEWAC can add for this group of curious explorers. She has audited, under the Senior Passport program at UNO, the Geopolitics of Central and Southeast Asia and the Global Economics course under the Professorship of Andy Shilling, a longtime member of the US Diplomatic Service and a NEWAC member.
