Ben “Felix” Ungerman

Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel · National Security Professional

Ben “Felix” Ungerman is Senior Advisor to Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) and a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel with nearly 25 years of service in national security, counterterrorism, and global military operations. His career included work on the White House staff, the Joint Staff, and leadership roles in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Eastern Europe. He brings extensive experience in defense strategy, international security cooperation, and public service.

About This Lecture

Drawing on decades of military and national security experience, Ben “Felix” Ungerman reflects on America’s involvement in Afghanistan through the lens of war, culture, and nation-building.

This lecture will explore the strategic challenges of military engagement, the cultural realities that shaped policy outcomes, and the enduring lessons of America’s longest war. Offering both professional insight and personal reflection, the talk invites the audience to consider what Afghanistan reveals about the limits of power, the complexity of international intervention, and the human dimensions of global conflict.
